Bob’s Red Mill Chia Seeds are part of the Bob’s Red Mill Grains of Discovery product line. The name “chia” coming from the Mayan word for “strength,” chia seeds were eaten by the ancient Aztecs and Mayans to boost energy and increase stamina. Chia seeds are also touted for their omega-3 fatty acids content. Sprinkle chia seed on yogurt or hot cereal, create a chia pudding or chia jam, incorporate into your granola or energy bar recipes, or check out the recipe on the back for a refreshing chia beverage. Here at the Mill, we really like to add chia to our breakfast smoothies and shakes. You can even create a homemade vegetarian egg replacer using chia: just mix 1 part chia with 6 parts water and let the mixture gel – one tablespoon of chia gel equals one large egg in baked goods.
